Our Story
Why We Exist
When Tamara and Yazeed’s son was diagnosed with asthma at a very young age and they wanted to offer him a dairy-free ice cream alternative that he could enjoy, they were surprised that they couldn’t find any healthy options on freezer shelves.
Everything was loaded with dairy, sugar and questionable ingredients. Realizing there was a gap in the market for a truly healthy and nutritious ice cream alternative made with simple and natural ingredients, they decided to create their own.
Tamara started making NanaPops at home by blending frozen bananas and combining them with other natural ingredients. When they saw how much their son loved them and how it positively impacted his wealth and well-being, they decided to make the products available to their larger community.
In 2016, they opened NanaShake on the corner of Sheppard and Yonge as Toronto’s first vegan ice cream parlor. It was a hugely successful concept and when customers asked them to make their products available at more locations in Canada they pivoted into a Consumer Packaged Food Business in 2022 and their products are now available at more than 1,300 retail stores nationally across Canada.
